Congress vs. BJP: Hanuman flag removed from a Karnataka village by authorities

There were tense moments in Keragodu village on Sunday after the authorities took down a 108-foot-tall flag post that displayed the figure of Lord Hanuman on a saffron banner, known as the “Hanuma dwaja.” A political standoff broke out in the state as a result of the incident between the opposition and the government.

When residents of the village and its environs, together with members of the BJP, JD(S), and Bajrang Dal, assembled to demonstrate against the flag’s removal, a sizable detachment of police officers was sent in as a precaution.

Police used a light lathi charge to put an end to the disturbance. The national tricolour was then flown atop the flagpole in place of the Hanuma dwaja by the police and administration.
